How to attend a Job Interview successfully

When you are preparing yourself for an interview, your focus is probably on the tough questions you will face, the thorough responses you will give, and the impressive-sounding words you will use. After all, that is what the bulk of the interview is about and what will get you a fast pass to an offer letter. But before you even get the chance to deliver those impeccably thought out answers, they will already have all eyes on you, evaluating your potential to fit the job and the company. From the moment you walk in the door, they will notice each and everything.

Here are few tips from a HR’s point of view:

Research more about the Company: Understand the key information about the company which can help you go into your interview with confidence. Use the company’s website, social media posts and recent press releases to provide you with a solid understanding of the company’s goals and how your background makes you a great fit for this position.

Practice your answers to common interview questions: Prepare yourself up by practising answering these most common questions:

‘Tell me something about yourself.

‘Why are you interested in this job or why do you want to join our company?

“Can you explain some of the day-to-day responsibilities of your previous job and how does they match the current requirement?’’

“Why do you want to leave your current job?’’

“What are the challenges you are currently facing with the current organisation and your job role?”

The main idea is to know how confident you are and what value you are going to bring to the company.

Read the Job Description: Go through the job description twice or thrice and prepare yourself with answers stating how your characteristics suit the job description mentioned.

Be prepared with examples of your work: At the time of the interview, you will be asked questions like, ‘How did you handle work pressure? , ‘How did you face clients?’, ‘How did you meet deadlines’? Prepare yourself with answers using examples.

Tie your answers back to your skills and achievements: With any question you will be answering, it is important you link it up with your skills and achievements. Every answer should be a combination of your interest, skills and their job requirement. Answer it smartly.

Do not speak anything negative about your previous employers: Companies would always want to hire problem solvers who would overcome tough situations. Even if you are feeling demotivated at your current organisation, mention all the good and positive things you have inculcated so far.

These tips alone may not help you win the job but they can surely get you a little closer.
